I Always Wanted

I always wanted swingy hair
Soft, and cut to my chin
That moved like a curtain across my face
Then swung right back again
My hair was black as midnight, but in curls
Mom always said curly was nice for girls
I never agreed and did my best
To make my hair meet the test
I had it straightened, ironed it straight
Dried it in big rollers, not worth the wait
When it was finished, it just hung there
It wasn’t swinging anywhere
It failed, no matter what I tried
It simply didn’t know how to glide
The curl is gone, my hair is gray
I keep it short, and like it this way
Just enough wave left for easy care
But I still wish I had swingy hair

Dear RK, how great it was to see you this morning, and how wonderful to be able to come back again and again and read your work here. So glad you've shared it with me. Here's to many happy years of scribbling.
